pre heresy takes its toll

I am covered in paint splashes. My brushes are getting worn, and I am sick of painting bloody marines.


That can only mean that Age of the Emperor - Siege of Terra (fall of Caliban,) is round the corner.


Like Ross at mywargame, I have been feverishly trying to get my battlegroup ready in time for the tournament. Being pre heresy, this is even more frantic than usual tournament army building. Every unit has at least some minor conversion work, and none adhere to standard paint schemes.

My Dark angels were initially going to be a soley lutherite force, the tempus fugitives dark angels pack actually splits the players between the Lion and Luther based on age during the actual game.

So I have made my own luther who will (heresy!) serve as the Lion when I am inevitabley the younger player.


So far complete:

Sabre tank hunter.

- A vindicator originally finished for my original Dark Angels 40k army, I added a barrell tipped with an insulin needle cap as a laser destroyer for the pre-heresy tank. A repaint for the majority of panels in black, and the addition of a red 30k era 1st legion emblem finished it off.

Fellblade

I built this when the baneblade was first released. All I needed to do was repaint the turret commander black.

Tactical combat squad

Still half to do, but 5 were finished ages ago. Mostly in robes with winged helms, knightly orders bits and similar.

Luther

Virtually finished, just needs detailing.

MKII Rhino

The venerable old rhino kit, with some additions.

Luthers honour guard

5 Sanguinary guard converted with dark angels iconography, all blood angels symbols removed or converted.

For example, winged blood drop greaves have the drop removed, and the small sword from the ravenwing icons added in place. This looks almost seemless and works well. A bretonnian man at arms standard was added to a glaive with a pin, with a dark angels icon added to the top.

Each model has a maximini steam knight helmet with the top removed, for that knightly feel. I have painted one, pictures to follow.

Rest of a tactical squad

10 sternguard w/kohl. I have modelled all 10 including kohl, and painted him and a flamer. This squad is all cream robes and could take some time.

5 bikes. Repaints really, some changes in armour type.

Sammael repaint. Im being lazy there.

Some more little updates, well actually a pretty big one! Legs section - done! Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnell on this one. Lots of grease, muck and oil on there, when everythings done I'll give it a light dusting of graveyard earth too for a finish of dust. Also worked on the right hand "shoulder" The soot needs thinning onto the yellow yet. Note the reconstructed plastic whittled spikes to replace the original resin ones which snapped off almost immediatley. I've got a small list of to do now, thank god - the sides of the body, with some hefty detail, fans, grills, pipes, icons etc, but its all hidden - done one side but the other still to do. The gun servitors inside the weapon shoulders, the carapace metalwork and spikes, rear of the engines and the underside of the weapon mounts. Lots of little bits, considering how much I've already done! (and have still to do, with its sister warhound...)

Fire Masters

  Four years between posts isnt a terrible average is it? In that time we've had a world wide pandemic, 2 presidents, 4 prime ministers, a new government, ok its been a while.  SO - recently I've been finishing off a Titan Legion, and returned to our gaming club - seem to have gotten some other people interested in the game, which is excellent. I chose the Legio Sutorvora, or Legio Infernus / Firemasters, a traitor legion known for their use of prometueum based weaponry. The Eternal Flame. No Bangles involved So my first titans...had no flame weapons. I built the Warlord, reaver and two warhounds with no flamers at all - but did paint alot of flames.  Reaver "Aeternum" Warhounds "Emberatum" and "Canis Destructor" and with paired gatling blasters (forge world upgrade) Warlord " Immolatum Rex " with Apocalypse Launchers Alot of people have complained about the time it takes to paint all the trim and it is fiddley. Paint together!

Last night the small group of friends I've been playing games with got together for the second time to practice some painting techniques. I get a real kick out of helping people learn - I don't, by any measure, think I'm anywhere near s good as some painters out there (the likes of platoon are stocked full of amazing painters) but I acknowledge I have skills to pass on. Last time we focused on my favourite, weathering and vehicles, and this time more of a free for all that included flesh tones, armour chipping, plasma and heat effects and finishing. Some people might think I'm stoking my ego by getting people together to blow sunshine up my arse - couldn't be further from the truth. I do bring along a selection of models which includes my golden demon finalists, but like it was for me I hope people find them inspiring.
