Not enough hours in the day

I've been extremley, hideously busy. Work is suddenly relevant and I actually have things to do, so modelling suffers a little when I get home. I've got a craptonne, (I love this phrase,) of models to paint/build, alter or whatever, and even a little comission work in the pipe. Skaven Hellpit abomination is nearly complete. I've pretty much finished the main bulk of the body, using a whole box of Milliput in the process. Hopefully, it looks like a giant, fat worm with rat ogre/skaven parts stiched on. I've added all the spare stormvermin heads I had with smoothed over putty so they (hopefully) look as if they are emerging from the body. I've started adding greenstuff fur as it holds the detail better than MP, and constructed a jaw from a Starship troopers arachnid jaw and added teeth made of various sword tips/daggers, spear heads and odds. Works suprisingly well. The "not being able to sculpt a fist" problem was solved by the screaming bell kits rat ogre,...

Some initial shots of the basic shape for my hellpit abomination... Eventually will have at least one "major" head among many, with many smaller skaven heads/mouths over its body, body will extend much furthur and bulkier back on the cart, and a long tail on a wire armature will be added. A fist with spiked claws and fur will be added on. Cart is the warhammer fortress battering ram

Hallo!

Had a little break and painted stuff I wanted to paint for a while. I've been really really really looking foward to the new Skaven releases for some time now. I decided to mix good quality painting with tabletop. I didnt want to spend weeks on each model, but didnt want to rush everything either. With this in mind, Queek headtaker uses actual metallics mixed with NMM. All of the following are early WIPs. The champions base has the ork glyph from the space wolf wolf guard direct model. Adds a bit of weight and an interesting centerpeice for the unit. I've half painted 19 clanrats, sprayed brown and red added. No more yet, nearly finished the standard bearer. (with a mans head attached) Been working on shimmer a bit too And inquisitor Rex's psyker. This pic doesnt show it, and I couldnt photograph it properly, but I managed to do some pretty nice free hand on the back of this guys cape. A small =][= for the inquisiton on the mid bicep level, I remembered the guy from bravehe...
Can't paint for toffee at the moment. Don't know what it is. Either pushing myself too hard or not enough, after Golden Demon I was so pleased with myself but now I feel like everything I touch turns to cack. Currently still working on that bloody land speeder, but put it aside thinking that was why I wasn't enjoying painting. Tried working on Scipio, and next years duel, but neither seem to have done anything for me. Maybe time for a break.

Quick update with some new pictures. Ross lent me his light kit and Wiggy loaned me his camera (again!) so I could take some better quality shots. They say photography is half of this hobby, and as much as I agree it always frustrates me that I have never managed to master it. I'm not able to produce high quality photography of my models, and thus never manage to put them out for decent critique somewhere like CMON, or Platoon Britannica. I've tried, over the years to get the hang of it. My dad is a decent photographer, and he has tried numbers times to show me the ways of the exposure and macro feature to no avail. One day maybe, till then I try to get the most out of point and click aids and lighting fixtures help immmmmmensley. Space Hulk stuff Brother Valencio Chainfist is at WIP stage, top mini is the finished article. Updates

Just a quick line drop - been busy and havn't managed to finish much of late. F1 GP at the weekends, (well done Jenson Button!) Tend to meen I don't have much time to paint! I have finished one thing, and made great progress on others. Skaven Asassin, Sneek Quikbyte. He is for my upcoming skaven army that will begin when the new army book is released. I have a box of clanrats, the book, and the beautiful Queek Headtaker model on pre-order. (edit - updated with hopefully better quality picture thanks to a borrowed camera and light kit) I have also made progress with the land speeder storm, including weathering and detail work. I will post more pictures later. I have no confidence in this camera being enough to show it to a good standard!

Games Day

Image
Well, now the hubbub has died down and everyones left the house, I can update a little about my Games Day. I'm not going to post all my pictures, (there are about 70,) but I will add some of my favourites. Important bit for me was my Empire Captain making the finals! Very pleased with that - a finalist pin at my second attempt is very encouraging and pumps me up with motivation for next years entrys. I already have lots of ideas - watch this space. The Wharf Captain in the finalists cabinet for Warhammer single - Ben Jarvis' Slayer sword winning Clockmaker and the two other winners are on the top shelf. Lots of titan models on the day, and overexcited friends. Battle for Prospero was an interesting participation game. Space wolves everywhere! Scott "Iacton"'s Warhammer Single finalist, Empire "Brian the Burger King" Captain. Massivley, massivley pleased for Platoon Britannica and the haul they richly deserved on the day. I'm proud to know these peop...

I took a break this afternoon/night on the space hulk models. Before kickboxing last night I started painting another terminator (pulling at the floor one,) and nearly finished his face, which I think is the most important detail area of a terminator. So anyway, thought I'd concentrate on some of the models for the upcoming tamworth games club 40k tourney. I decided on 2 landspeeder storms. I thought I'd proxy using normal speeders at first, but decided I would at least invest in one. Lovley model. How much of an understatement! This thing is the best multipart vehicle kit since jes goodwin redid the landraider back in the late nineties. So much kit. So many options. So much story to tell! Obviously, I'm going for the vietnam/dropship idea. Thats what it is. afterall. I decided to go for at least one scout rapelling down, after seeing a particulary compelling GD entry last year with a valkyrie similary posed. Bit small for on mass, so just one had to do, and well suited - t...

As promised, picture of the Librarian from the Space Hulk box. If anyones reading, lemme know what you think! couple of pics of Pre heresy stuff I'm working on, excuse the questionable picture quality on these. Bit ad hoc. 1st Legion Terminator Sergeant Standard Bearer Rhino Some marines. Note the lion helm from empire bits, some bretonnian armour plating, beaky melta gun and old bolter. Sergeant for the above, ignoring the unfinished combat shield. Legs were done mixing a normal veteren and a ravenwing biker leg, and sculpting the join together. Sword was reversed so hes gesturing with the hilt as if directing orders, or something. Helmet is from the empire knights box, with plumes removed and two ravenwing icons used as wings. Librarian that grew from nothing. Very pleased so far, plan on adding details like a basic psi hood and wires etc. Why does blogger post some of my pictures sideways? Try as I might I cant sort it out. Anyway, this is my PH terminator heavy weapon brother, ...
